Today’s key grammar: Nに行（い）きたいんですが…
Use: Adding 〜んですが at the end of a sentence allows you to explain your situation when asking someone for help. It makes your request sound softer and more polite.
- 図書館（としょかん）に行（い）きたいんですが、道（みち）を教（おし）えてもらえませんか？ (I’d like to go to the library, could you please tell me the way?)
- お手洗（てあら）いに行（い）きたいんですが、どこにありますか？ (I’d like to go to the restroom, where is it?)

Use: This expression connects two or more actions in a sequence. It’s especially useful for giving step-by-step directions.
- 道（みち）をまっすぐ行（い）って、左（ひだり）に曲（ま）がってください。(Go straight on the road, and then turn left.)
- 電車（でんしゃ）に乗（の）って、次（つぎ）の駅（えき）で降（お）りてください。(Get on the train, and then get off at the next station.)
Today’s key grammar: N1じゃなくて、N2
Use: This expression is used to correct what the other person said. It is used to deny N1 and correct with N2, making your correction sound gentle and polite.
- あれは、コンビニじゃなくて、交番（こうばん）です。(That’s not a convenience store, it’s a police box.)
- 電車（でんしゃ）じゃなくて、バスに乗（の）ります。(I’m not taking the train, I’m taking the bus.)

Today’s key grammar: V-て、～
Use: This expression is used very often when describing directions. When someone is giving you a ride and you are giving directions, it is easier if you mention an approximate location at first. When you get closer, use a recognizable building to explain.
- 道（みち）をまっすぐ行（い）って、次（つぎ）の角（かど）を右（みぎ）に曲（ま）がってください。 (Go straight on the road, and then turn right at the next corner.)
- 駅（えき）の前（まえ）の道（みち）を渡（わた）って、まっすぐ歩（ある）いてください。 (Cross the road in front of the station, and then walk straight.)
