Today’s key grammar: Noun です and Noun1 は Noun2 です
Use: です (desu) is a polite word placed at the end of a sentence to state something as a fact. It is like the English verbs “am,” “is,” or “are.” The particle は (wa) marks the topic of the sentence.
Examples:
- 私（わたし）はチャンです。 (Watashi wa Chan desu.) – I am Chan.
- 出身（しゅっしん）はハノイです。 (Shusshin wa Hanoi desu.) – My hometown is Hanoi.
