Japan uses six different coins. They are very distinct once you look closely!

日本には6種類の硬貨があります。よく見ると、それぞれに大きな特徴がありますよ！

1 Yen (一円)	Silver / Small	Made of aluminum. Very light!
5 Yen (五円)	Gold with a hole	No numbers, only Kanji (五).

100 Yen (百円)	Silver / Common	Most used coin in Japan.

### 💡 Tips to Avoid “Coin Panic”

If you only use bills (1,000 yen or 10,000 yen), your wallet will become very heavy with 1-yen and 10-yen coins. To avoid this, try to look for your small change while the cashier is scanning your items.

お札（千円や一万円）ばかり使っていると、財布が1円玉や10円玉でとても重くなってしまいます。これを防ぐために、店員さんが商品をスキャンしている間に、小銭入れの中を確認しておきましょう。

Many Japanese registers now have **automatic coin slots**. You don’t even have to count! You can simply drop your coins into the machine, and it will calculate the change for you automatically. It is very convenient for beginners!

最近の日本のレジの多くは、**自動釣銭機**になっています。自分で数える必要はありません！小銭をそのまま機械に入れれば、自動でお釣りを計算してくれます。初心者にはとても便利ですね！
