Don’t worry! You don’t need to be a Japanese expert to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. Today, we will learn 5 simple Kanji that appear on almost every toilet control panel in Japan. Once you master these, you can use any restroom with confidence!

### 🚽 5 Essential Toilet Kanji

Here is a simple table to help you recognize the most common characters.

### 1. The “Emergency” Button: 止 (Tome)
The most important Kanji to remember is **止** (Tome). It means “Stop.” If you press the water spray button (Bidet) and want it to stop immediately, look for the button that is often **highlighted in red** with this character.

### 2 & 3. Saving Water: 大 (Dai) & 小 (Shou)
On the flush lever or the digital panel, you will see **大** (Big) and **小** (Small). In Japan, being mindful of resources is a big part of the culture. Using **小** when possible helps save water and is very eco-friendly!

レバーやパネルには「**大**（だい）」と「**小**（しょう）」があります。日本では、資源を大切にすることが文化の一部です。できるだけ「**小**」を使うことで節水になり、環境にも優しいですよ！

### 4. How to Flush: 流す (Nagasu)
If you don’t see a lever, look for the Kanji **流** (Nagasu). It literally means “to flow.” Sometimes this is a button on the wall or a sensor where you just need to place your hand.

もしレバーが見当たらないときは、「**流**（ながす）」という漢字を探しましょう。これは「水を流す」という意味です。壁にあるボタンだったり、手をかざすセンサーだったりすることもあります。

### 5. Privacy First: 音 (Oto)
Japanese people are often shy about others hearing sounds in the restroom. You might see a button labeled **音** (Oto – Sound) or **音姫** (Otohime). Pressing this will play a fake flushing sound or bird noises to give you privacy!
